How many milligrams is one dose of your tincture?

A dropper is the unit almost every label uses, and almost no label defines. A full 1 ml pipette is the usual serving on a 30 ml bottle, so milligrams per dose is simply the dried mushroom per millilitre multiplied by how many millilitres you take. On ours, one 1 ml dose is 440 mg of dried, certified organic fruiting body; a half pipette is 220 mg. On a 1:5 bottle the same 1 ml dose is 200 mg. Same dropper, less than half the mushroom.

Why tincture maths is so hard to read

Very little on a mushroom shelf is comparable at a glance, and that is not an accident. Bottles come in different volumes, ratios are quoted in different directions, and the headline milligram figure is frequently a fresh weight - a back-calculation of what the mushroom would have weighed before it was dried, multiplied out by an assumed water content. It makes a bottle sound ten times fuller than it is without a word of it being technically false.

Dried biomass is the only weight worth comparing. It is what goes into the extractor, it is measurable, and it is the figure an extractor can be held to. Different species dry down at very different rates - chaga is dense and woody where lion's mane is soft and hydrated - so no single multiplier converts one honestly to the other.
